Perfect for a home office, study, library, or studio, this pen and ink insect wall art adds both warmth and intellectual curiosity to any space. It makes a thoughtful gift for nature lovers, entomology enthusiasts, scientists, educators, or collectors of natural history art, and works beautifully as a unique conversation piece.
I illustrated this pen and ink June bug (AKA May beetle) scientific illustration for a natural science entomology course, using a real Western New York specimen discovered in at a friend’s pool. This taxonomic scarab beetle study has since become one of my most popular and requested pieces.
This insect art print was created using traditional stippling techniques, rather than cross-hatching, to accurately capture the beetle’s texture, form, and anatomy. Rooted in the rich tradition of scientific taxidermy and natural history illustration, the artwork is finished on a warm, parchment-style background that enhances the intricate details of the beetle and gives the piece a timeless, archival feel.
